Podcast 11 - Intercession and Petition for a Child (Gen 25.21, 22)
In the ancient world, having children was perhaps more important than today, since they viewed having children as the only way to gain “immortality.” Just as Abraham and Sarah did not conceive for a long time, so also their son Isaac and his wife Rebekah could not conceive. Their story, and their prayers, can help us learn how to petition and inquire of God.

“Barrenness” in the Bible: Sarai (Gen 11); Rebekah (Gen 25); Rachel (Gen 29); Samson’s mother (Judges 13); Elizabeth (Luke 7); as well as general references to barrenness (Exod 23.36; 1 Sam 2.5; Ps 113.9; Luke 23.39). There are also a number of passages that use “barrenness of the womb” as an analogy for barrenness of land, people, or spirituality.
